Design pillars
- Immersion first. A minimal HUD; what the player needs to know lives in the world, not on the screen.
- Diegetic saving. Saving happens through objects that belong to the world, never through a menu that breaks the moment.
- Light as a resource. A handheld flashlight that shapes what you see, and a penumbra that is never pitch black.
- Scarcity that matters. Limited resources and a short, deliberate weapon curve, where every encounter is a decision.
- Spaces that connect. Interlocking areas, locked routes and points of no return that reward knowing the map.
- Story told by the place. Documents, objects and environmental storytelling instead of exposition.
Under the hood
- Unreal Engine 5.7, Blueprint-first, with data-driven systems for weapons, items and saves.
- Optimisation from day one: lighting, actor counts and instancing, Blueprint cost, materials and shaders are planned with handheld hardware in mind, not fixed at the end.
- Persistent level with streamed sublevels, to keep memory under control.
- Built for localisation: English voice-over with fully localised text, planned from the start.
